Vermeer’s premium product, service and support results in back-to-back hires for Swan Hill Hire

For businesses located in regional Australia like Swan Hill Hire, product quality is extremely important to consider, but what takes the cake in their partnership with Vermeer Australia is the “second to none” service and support offered by their local team.

Swan Hill Hire was founded in 1986 by Peter Kerr, originally running a one man show in a small, corrugated iron shed in Swan Hill, Victoria, about 320km north-west of Melbourne.

Fast-forward almost five decades, Swan Hill local Stuart King purchased the business in November 2015, bringing with him his broadacre family farming background, years of experience on construction projects, and a belief in forming strong relationships and a “we’ll get it done for you” attitude – something that has become the backbone of the culture at Swan Hill Hire.

The hire business specialises in the supply of hire equipment to satisfy the wide-ranging needs of customers in the local region and beyond – covering an approximate 200km radius from Swan Hill – including the general public, domestic and commercial builders, the civil construction industry, general contractors, businesses, events and hospitality, family and corporate farming enterprises and associated agricultural businesses, as well as local, state and federal government agencies.

Their fleet is made up of digging and excavation equipment, compaction and concreting equipment, telehandlers, demolition and building equipment and access equipment – amongst an array of other equipment types – and includes seven Vermeer mini skid steers, with three of the S450TX’s (24.8 hp) and four of the S925TX’s (35 hp).

“We previously had different brand machines we were having issues with,” says Kayla Shadbolt, General Manager at Swan Hill Hire, “then one day Kevin from Vermeer Australia in Albury had another delivery in our area and decided to pop in and do a demo for us, and it all came to fruition from there.”

Kayla says the Vermeer products are in high demand with usually only 1-2 units sitting in the yard and back-to-back hires.

“We’ve had Vermeer’s for the last three years and have had no real issues with them at all. They just seem to be the premium product. We’ve even had a couple of people in the area enquire about buying Vermeer’s from the dealer direct after hiring them, so that goes to show for itself what a good machine they are.”

With the team being completely satisfied with the Vermeer product quality, they say it’s the service from Vermeer Australia that stands out to them more, and is a more important factor as a result of where they’re located.

“Our local Vermeer team calls and checks in with us regularly, visiting us on a monthly basis, so the service is second to none” says Kayla. “That alone, the relationship, without even considering the quality of the product – you just don’t get that kind of service when you’re out in the country like we are. It really stands out.”
